The New England Hydropower Company
The work
A seven-year web partnership with a renewable energy pioneer — three websites built as the company grew from concept to commercially operating hydropower facilities across New England.
The New England Hydropower Company (NEHC) is doing something genuinely unusual: reviving North America's original renewable energy resource by installing modern Archimedes screw turbines in legacy dams and canals throughout New England and the U.S. Their technology is fish-safe, environmentally sound, and capable of generating power at capacity factors several times that of wind or solar. MacPhee Design has been NEHC's web partner for seven years across three website iterations — growing alongside the company as it moved from early-stage development to permitted, built, and operating facilities. This third version of the site reflects that maturity: deeper project documentation, expanded resources and downloadable assets, and content designed to educate the range of audiences NEHC works with — investors, regulators, landowners, and community partners. The CMO's words say it well: "Understanding content and goals lead to clarity. Enhancing brand characteristics for the web requires creative intelligence and smart selectivity. As excellent collaborators, MacPhee Design gets both and uses them."
