Rocky Neck Art Colony
The work
Consolidating multiple websites into one modern platform for America's oldest continuously operating art colony.
Rocky Neck Art Colony came to MacPhee Design with a challenge: consolidate 3-4 separate outdated websites into a single, modern platform that could serve visitors, artists, members, and the broader Gloucester community. The organization needed a sophisticated site built within Squarespace's ecosystem, one that would go well beyond out-of-the-box features while remaining maintainable by their team. MacPhee Design delivered a custom-built Squarespace site with advanced content architecture including custom content types for exhibitions, artist residency programs, and an interactive historic waterfront art trail, with filtering and categorization implemented across multiple pages. The content strategy prioritized both traditional SEO and AI-assisted search optimization, achieving a 100% SEO score while creating clear, scannable copy from minimal source materials. The project included brand development by Jeffrey Williamson Design, who created a logo and comprehensive brand guide. The interface design balanced stakeholder feedback with user-centered design principles to serve Rocky Neck's diverse audiences. The result is a visual-first website that puts the art colony's incredible artists and programs at the center of the experience.
